The amazing world of M.C.Escher

"We adore chaos because we love to produce order."

Maurits Cornelis Escher.

M.C. Escher is one of my favorite artists. He created an amazing world in graphic even thought he is also an architect. This is Escher first UK show and it is curated well. Because its timeline according to Escher’s life. The relationship was clear been seen between his artworks and his career.I feel very lucky to see his work in London.

I really like his work since I was a BA student. At that time, I designed a chair, and my inspiration came from Escher’s graphic artworks.

This word was named as free chair. The lines of the chair can fit different sitting heights according to people’s different demands, for example, the sitting height difference between adult and child. Compared with other products in the market, this chair omits adjusting instruments. When the body touches the sitting surface, the sitting surface will have elastic deformation, in which way, the surface will fit for different demands of everybody and provide adequate free space.

Draft mouldis an important composition of a work, closely bounded with the work’s success. Made many attempts to adjust angles and spacing, and tried to achieve certain support force and balance force. The top design of this special “S” form has a natural curve; many different cutting methods were taken to divide the line segments either regularly or irregularly. To adopt the shape of uneven bars is to reach better line beauty and make handrail unrestrained by sitting height, suitable for different groups of people. The square chair base can steady people’s center of gravity.

Source of Inspiration

Contradiction exists in everything in this world, between two things or inside one thing, in nature, human society and even in ideology field. Contradiction is universal and it is the unity of opposites. It also promotes the development through the inter conversion of the opposites. Just like the contradictory space

works of the famous Dutch graphic artist Escher, its unique appeal attracts the audiences in the mysterious works of contradictory space.

Thus design a chair that is different from normal or conventional. Seek for breakthrough from the way or form of sitting. Think about the way of the concept “sitting”, learn and adjust to combine lines and chair together to produce wonderful effect, which can bring aesthetic beauty to line changes and also present melody rhythm with its unique artistic feeling and layers.

Improvement

Modify the overall size and product material, making its shape more concise and practical functions perfect.
