Today is 19 SEP 2015 ，the beginning of London design festival. How exciting! But unfortunately, many galleries and exhibition not open yet. I follow the guide paper/book to pick up some interesting points.

First one is PRIN. Product designer Ariane Prin to launch RUST, the studio’s first homeware collection for the London Design Festival 2015. The RUST range is composed of pots, trays and vases created by mixing metal dust left from key cutting with plaster and eco-resin. She told me she collected the metal powder from many key stores. No two items in RUST are the same: the collection is entirely hand-made and the metal dust oxidation gives each product a unique texture, varying in colour and intensity.

She used the experimentation and reinterpretation of raw waste materials to create new products, and her work as industrial designer with various international clients on a wide range of products. The surface was very attracted me. In my view, it is not only unique but also a record about marking down any factor affect this design, such as weather and air humidity

The RUST was touched like ceramic, but actually it is plaster mixed eco-resin. It was need quite a long time to observe. The other difficult thing was Ariane cannot change the effect. I think this process was so interesting but it is not a good condition for a designer. When I was a BA student, I tried to combine four kinds of metal with different glaze in ceramic. This was my first time making ceramic, finally, the metal was gone after firing! I forget their melting point. They leave holes on ceramic. This process was so interesting even failed at the end. I told this story to Ariane, she smiled and told to me design process was keep trying and trying. She really gave me many inspirations and suggestions. I think my problem is, I only think about how about combine things together. Sometimes when I confirm one material-A and try to change other one, but failed. Actually, I was too stubborn. Sometimes it is best attempt to change A.
